Darien Gold has spent her entire life in work-out clothes
Born to move, Darien’s early athletic talents propelled her from achievements in a variety of sports to the arena of competitive gymnastics where she won numerous awards at local and national meets, but it was always the artistic aspects of gymnastics she found fascinating and sent her to New York City to study with nationally recognized ballet and modern dance teachers.
For the next eighteen years, she had a successful career in dance and choreography for stage and film, but it was when she accepted a choreography job in Los Angeles that she found Pilates. Or, as she puts it, “Pilates found me, and before long I knew that all my previous training and experience had been preparing me for the demands and discipline of the Pilates method. Literally, it has become my life’s work.”
In the film, “What Dreams May Come” (PolyGram Films, 1998) starring Robin Williams, Darien performed stunts that called on her to fly gracefully through the air at heights up to 100 feet. She maintained top physical strength and flexibility throughout the filming, a tribute to her study of Pilates.
In 2006 she was named the Dynamic Balance Coach for the UCLA Women’s Softball team and winner of 11 national championships. In 2007, Darien returned to the campus to give a Pilates workshop to the nationally acclaimed UCLA Dance Team.
In 2007 and in 2008, Darien was the featured teacher at Rancho La Puertas’ Pilates Specialty Week. Located in Tecate, Mexico, Rancho La Puerta is an internationally renowned fitness spa.
In addition, Darien teaches teachers as she feels a responsibility to pass on the work that she was so generously taught by Joseph Pilates’ first-generation students. Besides serving her clientele, her studio is a teacher development clinic where she assists certified Pilates instructors who want to deepen their own work as well as refine their teaching skills.
All clients of Studio Darien located in Hollywood, CA, get to experience the New York intensity and demand for the excellence she inspires. Darien is successful at keeping the work as pure as possible, in an environment that is calm and respectful. Her dream is to one day have a healing center where the Pilates method is side by side with other modalities – all working together for the complete health of the client.
Darien certified in the Pilates method in 1997 with Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates’ principal disciple and the one he designated to carry on his work.
